Hugo House

We love the Hugo house here in Loreto. It is the last house on a sandy lane at the end of Loreto's seawall. Very close to the main town square, yet far enough away to be quiet. There is a Mexican family 2 houses down with kids the boys age, and Liam is down there now trying to make friends. Their mother has agreed to watch the boys for 2 hours every afternoon. I am hoping that the boys will pick up some Spanish over there. We'll see how it goes. Ben is a little shy, and since he learned of his fate has been studying a Spanish phraase book.
Loreto is lovely. I'll post some photos in the next few days. there is a large part of the colonial town that is closed off to cars where all of the kids meet in the evening with their roller blades (seems to be the thing here) and bikes. Bob and I got the boys some used bikes at a second hand place and they are very pleased with them. Prices are very high here. Like USA prices. I don't understand how the average Mexican can afford to live here.
Bob left about an hour ago and we feel quite deflated. But tomorrow is another day, and another adventure. Sundayis the day of the open market in Loreto. Should be interesting.

  1. Looks lovely. How long are you staying there?

  2. Looks like a very nice place. From the picture it looks like the house has internet access. Do you have your days planned (other than the 2 hours in the afternoon) or will you just take it as it comes?

  3. Sounds like you lucked out! A family 2 houses down with kids your boys' age sounds ideal as well as the location of the house. Hope you and boys will have lots of fun!

  4. Good morning! I hope to boys have fun too! I asked Ben yesturday if he was homesick and he said "no." Liam, on the other hand, asked Bob to take him back to Seattle. His reason: "everybody speaks espanol here."

Internet seems to be no problem down here. I'm able to read the New York Times while listening to the roosters and the goats along the road waking up. This is a very different way to travel than I have done in the past.

We will be in Hugo House for 2 weeks, and then move to a slightly larger place with a pool. The next place is not as ideally situated, but the pool will be nice, and Hugo House wasn't available.

Mom, I'm trying to get the boys to do their homework in the mornings. But, there are so many fun distractions. Ben is supposed to be doing fractions; teaching equivalent fractions, and common denominater is not easy! Especially when there is no text!

  8. Sounds lovely, and we are looking forward to visiting this little village. But I do not suppose that the general store has any candy for sale, does it?

  9. Sarah, check the web site kahnacademy.org. They have a great tutorial on adding and subtracting fractions and common denominators. Endorsed by Bill Gates. The lesson plan I found on that subject is fairly far down in the list of lessons. Tim
